How to get the best “Getting Ready” Photos

Updated: Mar 24

One of my favorite moments of the wedding day is the “getting ready” process. Why? Because there is just a buzz of activity, excitement, and a little bit of nerves. There are also plenty of quite moments. It’s different with every couple while the post ceremony is pretty much the same for every wedding. If you’ve thought over every detail, I encourage you to give some thought into your getting ready space to ensure its captured beautifully.

1. Light. When choosing your getting ready location, be conscious of the light. Lots of windows and natural light is so important. I will often turn off all the room lights because they tend to give off a yellow or green glow. If your home or hotel room is not the most ideal, consider renting out a space on Airbnb like my sweet bride Alma.

2. Cleanliness. I understand that the room might get messy as everyone is getting ready and that’s 100% okay and I’ll capture that. However, when it’s time to take those last details photos like putting on your earrings or sharing a moment alone with your mom; I will enlist everyone to clean up the room.

3. Aesthetic & Space. If you are having a large bridal party, consider that with everyone’s stuff a room can get cramped fast. Consider a roomy space for everyone to not be on top of each other. Also, think of spaces with clean décor that don’t overwhelm your eyes, unless that’s the look you are going for!
